Choosing a Wiccan teacher can be one of the most frustrating and yet rewarding aspects of one's craft training.

There are many 'cranks' or individuals claiming to be some high mucky-muck who will put on a show designed to impressed the naive. Don't fall for it.

Traditionally, the Craft is taught from male to female or female to male in order to maintain the polarity between the sexes. So it is very important to keep this in mind when you decide that you want to take the next step and ask to become a student.

The key is to ask - not to be asked. Since this is a serious undertaking, it is best that it is done thoughtfully and without rushing.

Trust your instincts and let your conscience be your guide...

The interview process:

When you meet with someone whom you think might be a suitable teacher remember that while they are interviewing you to see if you are good fit, you are also equally able to interview them.

Ask your self how you felt IMMEDIATELY upon meeting this individual.

Here are a few more questions you might want to consider before deciding upon entering into a teacher / student relationship:

Did this person attempt to push you or manipulate you into making a decision to study with them?

Did you get the sense that they were 'trolling' or otherwise actively pursuing students?

Did this person have a good sense of themselves?

Was he or she able to to freely admit to making mistakes and or having any faults?

Does this person have a balanced life? Working? Emotionally stable?

Did this person have a a good sense of humour?

How did you feel about their communication style?

How did the person respond to your questions - did they honestly welcome them, or were they irritated that you asked?

There is a link that is established between teacher and student. This link or bond becomes karmic upon initiation. If the person who is teaching you doesn't 'feel' right to you, you should terminate the relationship immediately.
