Circe Argent FAQ

bullet What is British Traditional Witchcraft?

British Traditional Witchcraft refers to the two traditions known as Alexandrian and Gardnerian.

bullet What are the requirements for membership in Circe Argent?

Circe Argent requires that you must be eighteen years of age or older in order to train with us.
This is, by no means, a complete list:
  • That you are stable in your personal life.
  • That you have an open mind.
  • That you are truly interested in learning about the Craft of the Wise.
  • You don't want to be a Witch so you can 'get spells'.
  • bullet What does it cost?

In accordance with the Old Laws, we do NOT charge for training. How can one honestly put a price on learning about the Gods?

    bullet Do you teach online?

Quite simply, no, we do not. Learning the Craft is experiential. Reading about the Gods and the Craft is but one aspect of the learning process. The other is actually participating and doing things in a Circle. This allows one the opportunity to actually 'feel' the elements, the energy of the Circle and the presence of the Gods themselves. We feel that one cannot truly experience that in a chat room.

bullet Are you Robed or Skyclad?

Since we often have invited guests and children present at our Sabbats, we perform our rites robed.

bullet What is your coven's structure?

Our coven follows the typical Wiccan hierarchical structure indicated in brief, below:
  • Dedicant
    - this individual has studied with us for sometime and has decided to dedicated him or herself to the Old Gods. This mark's the student's first step upon the path.

  • Student Oathed
    - this is the equivalent of a neophyte in other traditions. Students at this stage have decided that they want to seriously dedicate their studies toward priesthood.

  • First Degree
    - one undertakes one's First Initiation and becomes a 'Priestess' or 'Priest'. At this point all initiates at this level may conduct/lead Circles.

  • Second Degree
  • - High Priesthood.

  • Third Degree
    - Initiates at this level are completely independent. Many thirds often are invited to serve as 'Elders' to any covens that may have been created out of their line of initiates.
  • bullet What about Secrecy?

Secrecy is integral to the Craft. As one progresses through their training only become privy to new information that cannot be found online or published any books because they have demonstrated their understanding and readiness to receive the information by the work they have accomplished. In short, one must earn the right to the information, one is not automatically entitled.

There is also the other issue regarding revealing one's self to those who do not understand what we are and what we do. Some such people may wish to persecute us for our beliefs. Even in this day and age people are still targeted. They may lose their jobs, their loved ones, children - the list goes on. Therefore, out of respect for others', safety and privacy, we leave the revelation process to a 'need to know' basis.

    bullet Isn't that exclusionary?

The short answer is yes. The long answer is, that as indicated above, one must earn the right to move ahead. This right is granted by one's teachers and High Priesthood. As students, we trust in their wisdom to lead us in the proper direction. If things are handed to one on a silver platter, what truly has been learned? Nothing.

Each of us learns in our own way. The Gods therefore reveal themselves to us in a private and personal way when we undertake to do the work. If we just skip such work, we miss out on so much, so what would be the point of robbing oneself of such a valuable and personal learning experience?

bullet Why don't you have an "online Book of Shadows"?

In our tradition, the Books of Shadows are passed on from teacher to initiate when the initiate has demonstrated he or she is ready for the information, he or she will be granted the priviledge.

If you take a look at many of the online BoS, a lot of them have just been copied and pasted from other sources. Before you use one, ask yourself: Did the individual who created this spell know what they were doing? How can you tell if they did or didn't? What good is a GENERIC spell?

The best spells and rituals are those that the practitioner has created themselves. There are plenty of printed forms of correspondences that one can use to create such things.
